Szociálpolitikus, a Felzárkózó települések programért felelős miniszterelnöki biztos, a Magyar Máltai Szeretetszolgálat alelnöke. Számos útkereső kísérlet és szakmai újítás fűződik nevéhez, ezek között említhetjük a tarnabodi befogadó falut, a veszprémi „Pokoli Tornyot”, a nyomortelepek felzárkózását segítő Jelenlét programot, illetve a közös játékot, zenélést és labdarúgást szociálpolitikai eszközzé fejlesztő módszereket is. Az ezredforduló után öt éven át hajléktalanügyi miniszteri biztosként tevékenykedett. Karitatív szervezet vezetőjeként és szakpolitikusként is mindig az egyes embereket segítő gyakorlatias megoldásokat keresi
Miklós Vecsei is the Prime Ministerial Commissioner for Roma Affairs and expert of social politics. He is the vice president of the Hungarian Charity Service of the Order of Malta. Many experimental programmes and innovations are related to him, such as the Inclusive village of Tarnabod, the refurbishment of Hell’s Tower in Veszprém, the Jelenlét Program (Presence Programme) aiming at the improvement of infrastructural and social circumstances of segregated areas, and other measures like playing together, music or even football as a tool of social inclusion. After the millennium, he was a ministerial commissioner for homelessness. As a leader of a charity organisation and as an expert of social politics he always seeks the effective and practical solutions.
“Rejtőzködő tehetségeink
Tehetséggondozás alatt rendszerint azt értjük, hogy az átlag feletti képességekkel bíró fiatalok támogatást kapnak tudásuk fejlesztésére. Felelősségteljes és szép küldetés ez, hiszen nemcsak az egyén teljesedik ki, hanem a közösség is gazdagabb lesz általa. Ugyanakkor azt is láthatjuk, hogy az elkötelezett segítők éveken át tartó erőfeszítéseinek végén a sikert sokszor egyetlen ember felemelkedése jelenti.
A Felzárkózó települések programban sok ezer tehetséges gyermekről tudunk. A különlegességre való képesség ott szunnyad bennük, és ha nem teszünk érte, akkor talán örökre rejtve marad. Közismert tény, hogy sorsunk az élet első ezer napjában eldől, az alapvető képességeinket, válaszainkat, szociális kötődéseinket meghatározó egyedi jellemzőink ekkor alakulnak ki. Amit hároméves korunkig nem sikerül megalapozni, azt nagy valószínűséggel öröke elveszítettük. Az otthonról hozott hátrányok az óvodában, iskolában már látványos különbségeket mutatnak, a leszakadó családok gyermekei esetében a tehetséggondozás rendszerint szóba sem kerülhet. Hogyan is emelkedhetne ki a többiek közül az, akit mindenhol a sor végére állítanak?
Ahhoz, hogy utolérjék a többieket, a nehéz sorsú gyermekeknek gyorsabban kell haladniuk az átlagnál, ez nagyon egyszerű képlet. A 300 legszegényebb település felemelését célzó program ezt az összefüggést szem előtt tartva határozta meg a célját úgy, hogy a fogantatástól a foglalkoztatásig kíséri ezeket a gyermeket. Ahogy haladunk előre, úgy bukkannak fel egyre több helyen a gyermekek korábban rejtett képességei. A feladatunk az, hogy a mindenkiben benne rejlő tehetséget felszínre hozzunk, és bár nem a páratlan adottságokat keressük, mégis gyakran lehetünk tanúi a csodának, ami akkor következik be, amikor a gyermekek valódi esélyt kapnak az életük kiteljesítésére. A siker pedig egyértelmű, igaz, a befuttatott tehetségeket nem feltétlenül a médiából ismerjük, viszont minden nap találkozhatunk majd velük az autószerelő műhelyben, a fodrászüzletben vagy a bankfiók pultja mögött.”
“Our hiding talents
By a system of talent care, we usually mean the support given to young people with better than average abilities to enhance their skills. This is a beautiful mission with a lot of responsibility involved, as it’s not only the individual who is enhanced, but the community also becomes wealthier in this way. At the same time, we can often see the efforts of several committed helpers for many years resulting in the success of a single person.
We are aware of the presence of several thousand talented children in the Catching-up Municipalities. They have the ability to become special, but if we do nothing to bring that out, their talent might remain hidden forever. It is a well-known fact that our fate is sealed in the first thousand days of our lives, as our basic individual features determining our basic abilities, responses, social ties are shaped then. Whatever we fail to lay the foundations for by the age of three, will most likely be lost for ever. Disadvantages brought from home result in spectacular differences by the time children reach nursery school and primary school. For children of underprivileged families, the system of talent care is usually out of reach. How could anyone rise above others who is always standing at the end of the line?
In order for such children to catch up with others, they must make faster progress – that is obvious enough. The program for upgrading the 300 poorest municipalities had this correlation in sight when defining its objectives, so that such children are escorted from the time of conception to employment. As we are moving forward, we see an increasing number of children with abilities which had remained hidden so far. Our task is to bring out the hidden potential from everybody, and although we are not looking for unparalleled abilities, we often witness miracles when children get a real chance to fulfil their lives. The success is obvious although we may not necessarily know these talents from the media, but we may meet them any day in a mechanic’s shop, at the hairdresser’s, or behind the bank counter.”
